Danzfolk, the upcoming Canadian duo from Ottawa, is composed of Devlin Brunet and Joey Samuel, both born and raised in the nation’s capital. At the young age of 19 and 21, the two have always been immersed and surrounded by music early in their lives. Devlin grew up playing the guitar and taking music theory courses throughout university, while Joey, whose father was formerly a Soca/Reggae DJ, was exposed to DJing years ago. Reunited by their love for music, the two began working together in 2012, despite having never previously produced music. However, it’s their remarkable work ethic, passion, and unique vision that separate these two from the rest.
Over the past year, Danzfolk has already received support from some heavy names in the dance music scene, being supported by fellow Canadians Dzeko & Torres, as well as being named exQlusiv’s Demo of the Month with their track “Signals”.
Danzfolk will definitely be a name to watch in 2014. Their signature style, composed of dark, progressive, and emotional music, combined with cinematic themes, will stick out amongst the wave of new upcoming talent. Watch closely, this is just the beginning.
