Discovering a love for hip-hop and a knack for writing catchy lyrics while attending high-school in Mississauga, Ontario, Danny Taro escaped the suburban life in exchange for a quainter existence when he enrolled at Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario. He brought hip-hop and his mind to rhyme with him and by 2010 he was an active member of the Peterborough Poetry Collective and the frontman of the live-instrument hip-hop group Bears Beats alongside 4 of his closest friends.
In May 2011, Taro’s gigging momentum, gained by both music and poetry, landed him a spot opening for the Juno Award winning rapper Shad K. Since then, Danny has emerged as Peterborough’s most active hip-hop emcee, having competed in the 2011 Canadian Festival of Spoken Word alongside the Peterborough Slam Team and growing with the success of Bears Beats in the first quarter of 2012.
Known for his positivity and exploring themes of love, self-understanding, struggle, and justice, Danny Taro aspires to flourish with his original style while attaching himself to the greater movement that is HyperNation Records and the Peterborough art community.
