This song was inspired by something that happened to a Kindred Spirit songwriter friend who had been insulted and verbally hurt by a mean spirited person. I wrote this consoling song to encourage my friend to keep on expressing herself, to ignore those types of negative people, and to associate with those who understand her and offer love instead of hate.
Some cre-a-tive spirits, - are driven - to roam. And pour their broken hearts out - to the crowds in song.
Lonely is the road they travel, - still the hunger gnaws inside.
Restless and driven, they sing out their songs, their feelings they just can’t hide.
And they go on …. They travel on
Driven-by-the-hope-that some - will hear - and understand.
And-with-the love of a few, - - they find the strength to go on.
They travel on …They travel on … They travel on ...
Some with an evil spirit, - full of hate and mis-e-ry.
Would drag you down, - and pull-you-to-the-ground, - just to have some com-pan-y.
But you carry on … You travel on ….
And your heart aches from the words that they never - shoulda said.
Stuck a knife in your side, - just to watch you cry, -
and leave-you-on-the roadside for dead.
And you can’t go on … You can’t go on … But you struggle on!
Music break … You struggle on … You struggle on …
I can see the hurt in your eyes, - as you peek through the cracks in your wall.
Wounded and sufferin‘, with a broken shield, they’ve caused your spirit to fall.
But you go on … You struggle on … You travel on
Well take my hand gentle spirit, - and I will help you rise.
See! Your wings are beautiful, - just spread them wide and fly!
And we’ll sail on … We’ll sail on
Ridin’ on the wind of love - and com-pa-ny,
and with just a-little-gift-of-love, -
You’ll-find-the-strength to go on!
And you’ll sail on … You’ll sail on … You’ll sail on
Music break … You’ll sail on
You’ll sail on You’ll -- sail on.
