About

On occasion, somewhere in a dark alley, in between dirty wet streets, a personality splits and a new nature - destined to follow a different path - emerges. It is a story of how cities change and vigilantes are born. But it is not Derek Bittner’s story.
A native Seattleite and rocker at heart, Bittner's transformation took place under the sunny skies of Miami in 2001. Pleasantly disillusioned by the throes of WMC and learned in the ways of audio engineering, Derek decided to try his hand behind the decks -- and d.r.k took life.
Tapping into a full palette of house and techno, d.r.k's style is calculated, observant, and delightfully dark. In 2010 he brought his experience as resident of Portland's eclectic Red Sea to Austin, and joined techno crew UFunKtion in its role as a city staple. Two years later, d.r.k adopted the role of robed emperor, bestowing the notorious VAGABOND collective with his raspy wisdom. Between both crews, he's had the opportunity to open for Dan Bell, [a]pendics.shuffle, Three, Carlo Lio, Camea, Subb-an, Onur Özer and Damian Lazarus.
When he's not swooping through Detroit, Miami, Playa, NY, San Francisco, and other classroom settings, d.r.k tinkers in the studio. 2012 debuted his release Weird Headspace alongside VAGABOND ringleader Daniel Allen on Harmonious Discord, and future remixes are in the works. The beach-born personality can also be found monthly in the cave of Austin bars Kingdom and Plush.
