About
Growing up in Invermere B.C. then attending university in calgary for 7 years or so years has enabled Justin Futa to explore many different options in life. He is now back in Invermere taking full advantage of the B.C. lifestyle. After becoming a bass fanatic, Futa made his inaugural journey to Shambhala and like countless others came back with a glimmer in his eye. Before buying any equipment he spent months in his basement on the internet reading about becoming a DJ and collecting music. Finally touching a set turntables didn’t happen till his 27th birthday (December 29th 2008) when two of his friends set up their gear for his party. Two days later through the generosity of DJ Lefy and pure dumb luck, Futa played his first live show in the Madson room at Bud’s Nightclub on new years eve 2008. Not wasting any time he started borrowing laptops and gear from friends so that he could play shows while he accumulated the means to become a DJ. It wasn’t long before Futa earned residency at Bud’s Nightclub in Invermere, headlining for nearly every big occasion. A rigorous directive as well as playing for capacity crowds every long weekend made for a very steep learning curve. 18 months after touching turntables for the first time d-J.Futa played a Friday slot on the main-stage (Pagoda) at the illustrious Shambhala, the preeminent electronic music festival in Canada. With a residency on the main-stage at Shambhala , as well as headlining at festivals like Supernatural, Basswalker, Fozzyfest, April Flowers, The Groove, Edfest, SYNC and more, you can expect to see huge strides made by this DJ. Chances are if you've attended any of the events around the Invermere area, Futa has had something to do with it. He charged into the scene with momentum and has been tearing the wheels up, and filling dance floors like a veteran ever since. With his roots in breaks, and electro, d-J.Futa enjoys spanning numerous high energy genres in his sets, always making room for a little mid-tempo, dubstep and Drum and Bass. Turntablism has become a welcomed addition to Futa's style adding some flair to his already dynamic sets. Justin has a natural charisma that pairs with his music and generates an energy that packs dance floors everywhere he plays with remarkable consistency.
