How Long, O God is a setting of Psalm 13 for choir SATB and organ with text adapted by Atlanta poet Marcia King. The work was composed as an offertory and performed by the Choir of the Cathedral of Christ the King as part of Curtis Bryant's Atlanta Faith Partners Residency sponsored by the American Composers Forum. Kevin Culver leads the Cathedral Choir with Tim Wissler at the organ in this performance from the final combined performance at First Presbyterian Church, October 17, 2010.
HOW LONG, O GOD (after Psalm 13)
How long, O God, will you forget and hide your face from me?
How long must my soul bear this pain of sorrow's tyranny?
How long will those who wish me harm continue in their quest?
Please answer me, O God! Enlighten me, or give me rest!
I often fear the sleep of death, as though they will prevail
who wish the worst for my poor life. My foes hope that I'll fail.
How long, O God, will you forget, and hide your face from me?
I've trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall sing anew
to you, O God, when bountifully your gifts come down like dew.
