My father was a multi-instrumentalist. Maybe thats how i got the kick start on my music interest. But everybody loves music. Its the passion that separate a listener, and a composer.
I remember singing along to MJ when i was a kid. :) I listen to all genre actually. ABBA to MLTR to some Malaysian 80's band to Dangdut. But its not until i got a hold of Greenday's Dookie when i realise... i want to make music. And then Kurt Cobain happens.
I was in a band playing all sort of covers ranging from The Offspring to Metallica to Korn and Slipknot. And we even got a demo recorded just as we turn 17 :) Had a couple of gigs where the senior scener look at us playing metallica while they were just banging some 3 chords song. Those were the days :)
Then we turn old and graduated high school. Everybody busy with life and i was left with this worthless passion of music. Wasn't much to do with it back then when technology was something from outer space or something. Thats why I deeply want to thank Dr.M for internet :)
What got me started to listen to EDM was actually from a movie called Hacker. Its Orbital - Halcyon & On & On. I was 15. And that movie just change my whole life. My first LP is Prodigy - The Fat Of The Land. Thanks to the Firestarter video i watched at my drummer's home. Back then cable TV wasnt cheap.
I remembered most of my source comes from OST. X-File OST, Spawn... The Crow. And as i got older, things just ain't techy enough. Everything has to be complicated. I've became Hipster music lover!!!! But its really not that odd for me cause i've very different taste amongst my friend. So when i listen to stuff like Meshuggah or Autechre... its not very shocking :)
I started making music on a computer when i got a hold of Reason 3. I was all like Aphex wannabe but at last i sounded like Muse or Coldplay. Tried breakcore and you should find a track called "piece of mind" on my Soundcloud that was born out of my love with breakcore. Its techy stuff... Techdiff, Mochipet, Venetian Snare, etc. Until i found a video of Amon Tobin playing Monster - Emalkay. DAMN!!!!
I really dont understand what was Amon Tobin doing, but i thought that was cooool. So i got to Foley Room. And his live set kills me. There i learn about mixing. And i got 'greeted' by the legendary Noisia. I've folllowed Spor since myspace :) (now thats a very long time ago) but its seems weird that i overlooked Noisia at that time. But Names like these who brought me to bass music.
So there you go, I've listened to 'Monster' before 'when i look at you' and followed Spor before Noisia. And Burial before Mt EDED :P not really a hype person aren't I?
