About

1) 'LOVE a crazy compilation'

In memory of highly regarded Chicago musician 'Crazy Crazy' Tim Rutkowski, Rabid Badger Records produced a tribute in 2012 called 'Love, a crazy compilation'. This unique collection includes Tim's recordings over fifteen years with Chicago area greats including Jay Bennett (Wilco), Ike Reilly (IRA, The Eisenhowers), Erich McMann (Crickle, Underwater People), Greg Firak (Dirty MF & The Smokin Sextion, Fifth World, Mono), Pete Downes (Kentucky Jelly, Scanning Babies, Turtle Porn), James McConnell (The Go, UVR), Sean Fried (Big Guitars from Memphis), Phil Karnats (Tripping Daisy, Secret Machines), Phil Rockrohr (Phil Rockrohr and The Lifters), Mars Williams (Psychedelic Furs) and more.

The compilation explores multiple genres including rock, pop, techno, experimental improvisation, dub, jazz, urban funk and r&b. While featuring Tim's drumming, percussion, sax and production, it also showcases various recording styles such as authentic 4-track reggae dub, crystal clear studio production with Jay Bennett, hard to find Ike Reilly (Eisenhowers) recordings and even a Kentucky Jelly jam which was written, performed and recorded in one take.

Tim's earliest musical influences were his Mom and Dad, Uncle Gary, Grandpa Chris, Dan Michalski and magical Monday night jam sessions at Wise Fools on Lincoln Ave. where he experienced some of the best Jazz session players as a boy in the late 1970's. Steve Dahl, Paul Shaffer & The World's Most Dangerous Band, SNL, JBTV, Night Flight, MTV, Dr. Demento, WMET, WLUP, WXRT and Barry Winograd's Jazz Transfusion were also early influences.

Thanks to all his music instructors, band mates, collaborators, supporters and friends over the years. Special thanks to all the writers for their gracious releases and to the performers, producers and engineers for their contributions to this record.

Hats off to 'Crazy Crazy' Tim, wherever he may be, for a lifetime of love and complete devotion to the Chicago music scene.

And finally, thank you for listening.

2) 'LIVE a crazy compilation'

Tim Rutkowski’s collection of recordings ‘LOVE a crazy compilation’ was released this year on his birthday at The Gallery Cabaret in Chicago. The night was filled with friends, music and even a birthday toast at midnight.

Far from just a collection of songs, this live album puts you right there along with Tim's band mates collaborating in his honor, celebrating his life and playing his kit all night. Some highlights of the evening include a B.B. King cover by William Purvis, the premier of Phil Rockrohr's new single 'Erica Tranthem Blues', some crazy morsels from the one and only Pete Downes and the reunion of Crickle after twenty years. The evening came to an end with an impromptu performance of 'Let It Be' by Crickle featuring Phil Angotti, Elisa Lombardo and Kevin Mantegna.

This ‘crazy’ compilation was recorded LIVE.
