Oh Laura - ”The Mess We Left Behind”
On 13th of June 2012 Cosmos Music will be releasing a brand new album by Swedish act Oh Laura.
It has been five years since Oh Laura released their debut album ”A Song Inside My Head, A Demon In My Bed".
When the debut album’s first single, the evocative "Release Me", featured in an international SAAB car commercial, the breakthrough was a fact. “Release Me” topped countless charts, both at radio and retail, including Spotify, where it became their first official no.1 single. The same year it was voted "Song of the Year" at the annual songwriters award in Sweden. The single went platinum, the album went gold and a whole nation fell hopelessly in love with singstress Frida Öhrn’s beautiful and emotional voice.
It wasn’t long until the rest of the world caught up. From Poland to Australia, from Japan to the US, Oh Laura was dubbed Sweden’s “new Cardigans” and was getting ever closer to breaking it big internationally. They were just about to embark on their first international tour.
But then, due to internal differences - the band split up. Sudden and unexpected – and the break-up was final.
Lucky enough earlier recording sessions for Oh Laura’s album had been extremely fruitful. Plenty of great songs had been recorded for the next album, that never saw the light of day. Until now.
Cosmos Music is now proud to present "The Mess We Left Behind” – twenty songs on a double album – all preiviously unreleased material. Brand new songs recorded for the planned follow-up, demos, alternate takes, new mixes, the theme song from a movie (co-written by Sir Tim Rice) – and the great UK radio version of “Release Me”.
These beautiful, luscious twenty songs unearthed for the first time, deserves to be heard as part of Oh Laura's story.
The hype surrounding the band is still there and so are the fans. Videos and tributes of their songs posted on YouTube have now passed well over five million views, with new comments continuously being posted - and this is all from a band that only managed to release one record during their active career.
The magic of “Release Me” is again finding new fans and still riding high in the charts. It recently went to no. 1 on iTunes - this time in Norway after it was covered by one of the finalists in "The Voice".
Despite a short career and a way too early break-up, Oh Laura continues to reach new audiences through the sheer power of the amazing music created while they were still together.
There is no doubt Oh Laura rightly deserves its place in Swedish pop/rock music history. And if “The Mess We Left Behind” is the final chapter in the band’s history – at least it is a beautiful mess they are leaving us with…
