Camera Obscura is a dark chamber in which a natural image of the outside area can be received through a small hole and projected onto a flat surface. The principal is referenced in this audiovisual installation, however natural methods are replaced by technological means. This in turn serves to parallel how our natural environment is in constant change because of our intervention.
Image and sound captured at the festival is presented in real-time in an abstract and multi-textural format and documents the weekend’s events as they unfold around the gardens - by chance and in constant flux.
For the audio; microphones are placed around the outdoor concert stage. Sound from performances, rehearsals and preparations over a specific decibel limit trigger audio to record to disk. An array of 50 recordings is formed and chosen at random (and constantly updates as new recordings come in). As well as this array of recordings, a live feed of audio is utilised. All audio is spectrally blurred in real-time to give the dark ambient textures.
