I’ve been revisiting the catalogue to gear up for recording a new album, just trying to take notes on what to do or not do sonically, and remembering which sessions felt the most inspired.
Recording the song Ease My Mind was one of the best experiences I’ve had in the studio. For one, Michael Leonhart who played trumpet on this record (and was touring with Steely Dan at the time) nailed the vibe of the song instantly, perfectly interpreting the waves of melancholy and nostalgia I hoped to impart through the melody.
After the session, Michael introduced me to Hanne Hukkelberg, who I’d never heard of before. She’s since become a huge influence on my writing and although my sound is inspired by a variety of artists from different genres, her presence is definitely felt on the new material.
I can’t wait to get in the studio again.
