Armand Gutheim has been active within the cultural and artistic branch since early years. He was born in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1960 by French parents whom had emigrated from Paris almost ten years earlier. Therefore, besides Swedish and English, he speaks French perfectly well.
Mr. Gutheim started his artistic and musical education at the age of 8 while joining the Royal Swedish Ballet School. This followed by various educations into the fields of music, mime, acting and choreography in different schools not only in Sweden but also in France and Denmark.
Mr. Gutheim received his dance education, beside the Royal Swedish Ballet School, at the Ellen Rasch Ballet Institute Stockholm, the Raymond Franchetti Institut Chorégraphique Paris, the Rosella Hightower Centre de Danse International Cannes, the Birger Bartolin Ballet Seminar Copenhagen and at the University College of Dance Stockholm where he studied choreography.
His musical education consisted of studies at the Municipal School of Music and the Municipal Institute of Music in Stockholm, along with private studies in piano for Birgitta Nordenfelt and José Ribera, studies in singing for Elisabeth Sundström and Kurt Apelgren, studies in composition for the famous composers Sven-Erik Bäck, Arne Mellnäs and Ole Lützow-Holm and finally studies in electro acoustic music for Sven-Erik Bäck and Miclos Maros at the Electro-Acoustic Studio in Stockholm.
Mr. Gutheim entered the professional world at the age of 19 when receiving his first commissions from different theatres, schools and ensembles as a dancer, choreographer, rehearser, pianist, composer and sound engineer. In late 1979 Mr. Gutheim was asked to replace three injured male dancers at the famous Cullberg Ballet while preparing their new Christmas program. Six months later he joined the company permanently.
During the 1980’s Mr. Gutheim mainly worked as a dancer and a choreographer within the Cullberg Ballet and the Royal Swedish Ballet. In order to work in a wider range he left in 1990 to form his own production company – Mother Earth Artists - and he has ever since been commissioned within the fields of music, theatre, dance, musical comedy, television and film production both as an artist, director, choreographer, composer and author as well as a producer.
Mr. Gutheim's contribution as a composer has shown great versatility when creating pieces for both classical ensembles as well as for his own rock band. He has also shown great interest in composing music for the electro acoustic genre as well as for the musical comedy genre. As a music producer, he has also produced other artists such as Annika Ljungberg (Rednex) and Stormwind. Through the years Mr. Gutheim's music has been presented on all sorts of circumstances, on the radio, on various festivals and on several venues. He is a member of STIM, Swedish Performing Rights Society, since 1977 and the Swedish Musicians' Union since 1993.
As a director, choreographer and author Mr. Gutheim has set up several productions performed on some of the most prestigious theaters in Stockholm as well as on tour. He has particularly gained recognition for his family productions on the Vasa Theater, Pero Theater and Southern Theater in Stockholm. Mr. Gutheim has also shown great talent as a lyricist and librettist, and he have also produced short films. Since 1980 he is a member of the Swedish Union for Theater, Artists and Media.
Several students whom now are established professional artists, actors or composers have originally enjoyed studying for Mr. Gutheim the theory of music, rythmics, interpretation, creation, body expression, dancing etc. Among others, it is worth mentioning the composer Karl Nicklas Gustavsson, the artist Yrja Gmeiner and the actor Özz Nûjen whom all have reached a carrier on an international level...
During the last ten years Mr. Gutheim has also put a lot of energy in developing the cultural life in cities nearby Stockholm. With great dedication he has fulfilled his missions as a producer, consultant and secretary for cultural affairs.
