About

I ‘ve taken Collie Weed nickname from my former favourite track by Horace Andy. While preparing a poster for my first party I needed to write something and, to be honest, I still don’t know why I chose this one. I remember when I heard the song for the first time It was summer in 2000. I was lying on a thick comfortable Chinese carpet in a living-room, at the landlady’s, Meleena Thomas, place. I’ve been a selector since autumn 2001. From then on quite a lot has happened: 2 mixtapes have been released, the one of a kind way of combining all types of reggae has been shaped. Why so? Reggae is like a river. Watching one at its widest point, you wonder how it looks at its beginning. It doesn’t have the same depth all the way long. Various branches and basins are what form the harmonious entirety. I couldn’t listen to jungle or dubstep not knowing anything about reggae. Fluctuating all the time between the throes of love and passion of rocksteady and liberated and aggressive dancehall, which I loved to play at the beginning and I still play, but to a smaller degree. What you can hear at Collie Weed’s parties is generally a diversity of genres. Apart from reggae, I collect some other stuff and thus, I play also dubstep, ninja tune, future jazz or some less known hip-hop. The two mixtapes (2006 and 2007) were warmly received in Polish reggae environment. In general, they are based on foundation riddims, that is, the most important rythms of the kind. My remixes/blends also appeared there. You can listen to them winding the tape on or waiting for the next track. Since the first half of 2007 the Collie Weed Selekta’s parties have been lead by Mc Don Kamillo, who supports them vocally, at the same time making the performances similar to their Jamaican model. Since the beginning of October 2008 I’ve been delivering 10-minute spots in Radio Afera Poznan (98,6 fm/ afera.com.pl). I named the series Dubwise&Otherwise. This is the title of a great dub medley released on the Blood&Fire label owned by Steve Barrow, a real walking encyclopedia. He’s also an author of Rough Guide to Reggae Music which I most warmly recommend! I present dubstep and other inventions alike, giving my best regards to the music fans. You can follow Dubwise&Otherwise on every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 1 p.m. If you want them, pm me or write: collieweed@o2.pl.
