Welcome to CNN Radio News Day.
Here are some of the stories we cover in today's edition:
President Barack Obama and his Republican challenger, Mitt Romney, meet on stage tonight for their first debate. It will be broadcast live on CNN from the debate hall on the University of Denver campus. And it could present a make-or-break moment for either candidate. A CNN poll shows 56 percent of likely voters believe Mr. Obama will come out on top, but debate expert Steve Keller says there are dangers for the president:
[4:17] “President Obama on occasion seems to be channeling Joe Biden and saying downright unusual or nonsensical things."
Venezuelans go to the polls to elect a president on Sunday. Controversial leftist ruler Hugo Chavez is facing a serious challenge from Henrique Capriles Radonski. CNN's Senior Latin American Affairs Editor Rafael Romo says this time around a thumbprint will be required to activate the ballot machine:
[9:36] "What the critics are saying, and mainly the opposition, is that it would be very easy for the government to know who voted for whom. And... if you are a government employee you are expected to vote for Chavez. And if you are a recipient of a welfare program under the Chavez government you are also expected to vote for Chavez and that is one of the reasons why he has stayed in power for so long ."
And, you know the phrase, "There's an app for that." But behind every mobile application there are people like Andre Charoo:
[15:44] "Being a part of something that can be really massive and touch millions if not billions of people in rather a short period of time really was sort of my motivation behind starting any sort of tech company."
