Welcome to CNN Radio News Day.

Here are some of the stories we cover in today's edition:

It was a hard-fought race, but in the end U.S. President Barack Obama won re-election. The president cemented his spot in the White House with at least 303 electoral votes verses 206 for Republican Mitt Romney. Priscilla Jones was at the McCormick Convention Center in Chicago for the president's victory party:

"I'm hoping that the people that voted for Romney actually give Barack Obama a chance to prove himself. Four more years."

For the first time yesterday two U.S. states, Colorado and Washington, approved measures allowing adults to use marijuana - and not just for medical reasons. But pot is still illegal in the eyes of the federal government. Alison Holcomb with New Approach Washington, an organization campaigning to legalize marijuana in Washington state, is hoping for the best:

"I'd like to see the federal government take the same position it has with medical marijuana: If you're not violating state law you're not going to be a target of federal enforcement."

It's been 53 years since Hawaii became the 50th U.S. state. But after election day America is now closer than ever before to adding another state to its flag. Puerto Ricans narrowly voted to be considered for statehood. CNN en Español correspondent Danya Alexandrino in San Juan says the vote is non-binding:

"That's one thing that Puerto Ricans, here on the island, are unaware of... But, in essence, Congress is the one that decides."
