Welcome to CNN Radio News Day.
Here are some of the stories we cover in today's edition:
The U.S. Presidential election is Tuesday. And today voters got yet another piece of information to mull over before casting their ballots. The Labor Department's jobs report for October shows the unemployment rate ticked up one-tenth of a percent to 7.9 percent, though the economy did add 171,000 jobs. CNN chief political correspondent Candy Crowley says the numbers fit right in to the narrative for both camps:
“I think it's a wash. It's just another log on the fire that has been burning for two years, essentially."
Before this week, for many, the words 'Jersey Shore' conjured-up images of the hard-partying MTV reality show stars. But in TRUE reality, the Shore has meant many things to many people through the years. Then came Hurricane Sandy. And now what we see are images of decimated boardwalks and washed-out beaches. David Vigilante grew up with the Jersey Shore:
"That's what my brother said when he called to talk about the devastation Superstorm Sandy wreaked on the Jersey Shore, the summer playground of our youth."
Most 18-year-olds are excited for Election Day because it's their first chance to vote. But Aziz Akbari of Fremont, California is excited for a different reason - he's on the ballot, running for mayor:
"This is very real for me. This is not any sort of stunt, or anything like that."
