About

I’m a freelance musician and audio/visual artist based in Cumbria in the UK.

I have long experience of sound design, music making, sound recording, live sound engineering, web design, graphic design, photography, film making, VJing and animation and have run workshops for over 10 years.

Art work

My work is influenced by environment, community and a sense of place. I work in the fields of live improvised electronics, sound art, experimental film and photography.

I have played music for over 25 years and am currently playing solo as Clutter (improvised ambient electronics) and a number of projects across the North of the UK.

I have had my work featured in Störung Festival, artgene, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Manchester Jazz Festival, Lanternhouse International, LitFest and resonance fm.

‘Field recordings, strings and dubbed out noises all crop up filling this 3” CD with more ideas than some full length albums. A bold, innovative release that leaves me hungry for more.’ Was Ist Das?

‘Clutter is at once a jumble of noise and an entirely thought out soundscape. Like a Rubix cube it slowly comes together for the more patient among us. Engage from the start to solve it and stick with it through thick and thin’ - Liverpool Daily Post

Commissioned work

I have produced a number of works for commission for companies such as The National Trust, LitFest, Welfare State International, Grizedale Arts, Heron Corn Mill and Printfest. This has included sound design and music for film, theatre, stage and dance. I have produced films.

‘A big thank you to Shaun for doing a great job in little time, music that he creates ALWAYS fits our needs’ – Workshop Media

Workshops/Training

I have run workshops across the UK for over 10 years, working with ages 6 to 90, making music, sound art, film and web based art. I have been employed by BBC, Creative Futures Cumbria, Youth Music, Sound & Music, Barrow Borough Council & Whitewood & Fleming amongst others.

‘Thank you once again for your involvement with the R Factor project. Your talent, integrity and enthusiasm for the work you do, is very much appreciated by all those who have the good fortune to work with you.’ - Musiclinks

‘The animations are fantastic. We watched them together in class this morning. The children were thrilled with the finished product. Thank you so much for your hard work. To achieve what the children did in only one day is amazing.’ - Teacher, Silloth Primary School
