Club Popozuda Mixtape #22 (DJ Jimmy Valencia)

Our latest exclusive mixtape is a compilation of the hottest and most played tunes in Rio during the past Carnival and summer. In this mix, DJ Jimmy Valencia sets out to share with everybody who is either into the Carioca Bass movement or curious about it, what it sounds like living in Rio during this time of the year. So here's the latest Carioca Funk - the songs that played on radio constantly, heard on the beach, blasted out from cars, played loud in the Bailes (parties) and were most talked about on the streets of Rio.

"I was really interested in making a very eclectic and accessible mix representing the many sounds I've discovered during my 6 months trip playing in Brazil and that I felt other mixtapes or compilations had failed to give enough exposure to because there were all too focused on playing the 'Nu Wave' in Carioca Funk. So I included genres like Funk Melody (Pop/R&B Funk), Samba Funk & Rap Antigo (Old School) which are very popular across the city, and I mixed them with more Alternative & Electronic tracks to give the mix a good contrast, adding my own flavour including some AfroBrazilian House and my own DJ edits as well," says Jimmy himself.

Playing over the past 10 years in London, Jimmy developed a unique and eclectic sound which he calls Electro Dembow - a very energetic DJ set heavily influenced by Afrotropical House & world bootyshaking rhythms mixed with dirty Electro beats and bass. In 2011 Jimmy decided to pack up his records and head to South America with the goal of learning from the different electronic & local music scenes, and incorporating new sounds & flavours into his Electro Dembow sets.

His first stop was Brazil, land of Funk Carioca & Tecnobrega, where Jimmy performed at two of the hottest venues in São Paulo, Lab Club & Neu Club, and was invited to play at two national underground electronic Web radios, RadioPirata.Tv & InTheMixBrasil.com. In Rio de Janeiro, Jimmy became resident of the most popular Urban Latin party in town, played at WAY OUT, the only really eclectic party in Rio and played from the top of the Favela do Vidigal during New Years 2012... a real achievement for any Global Bass DJ!

DJ Jimmy Valencia continues with his South American tour and is currently playing in Colombia’s electronic music capital, Bogota, where he has quickly stablished a name for himself having already played alongside the top Tropical Bass badboys in Colombia Mike Cerdá aka MkC, Andres Aceves aka Mixticious, DJ Vitola & Mr Moombah aka Shake That Bass in some of Bogota's most respectable clubs such as Kea Bar, La Villa, Latora 4Brazos, Bogaloop e InVitro.
