About
Closer Apart. As the paradoxical moniker suggests, the names behind this exciting new Melbourne-based project come from very different tangents; Andy Kidd (ex-Continuum) with his background in tech-house and minimal, and FredEx (Lubdub, K-Oscillate) with dub and larger techno sounds.
Synthesising these influences into something new and fresh entirely, the end result is an organic, wobbly and glitched out take on the tech sound, inspired by the outdoor festival culture in Australia.
Making their live debut as the closing act of the last Winter Solstice Festival in Cairns, Closer Apart have since gone to perform at high profile events both here in Australia and abroad, including Kapuri Festival (Mexico), 303 Arts Festival NYE (Brazil), Nirvana (Argentina) and Rainbow Serpent, Earth Frequency, Subsonic Music Festival and Strawberry Fields in Oz.
Along the way, they’ve featured on Pinksilver Digital’s compilation Twenty4 (Part II), Kupuri Music's Festival 01 Compilation and on Open Records’ hit compilation Depth Perception, which hit No.2 on the Beatport Minimal Top.100 Release Charts. With a recently completed remix of Mark Henning’s Guilty Pleasures ready for release and an upcoming release on Subsonic Music, stay tuned for more from this contradictory pair very soon!
