About
Born, Isiah "Slick" Richard, Jr., "CKT Slick," hails from Clarkston, Georgia, U.S., by way of New Orleans, Louisiana. Slick began an interest in music at age 10 when he and two of his cousins joined together to form the group "LBD." It is here where Slick learned the nuances of studio recording. Into high school, Slick diversified his rhyme patterns by rapping alongside 2 upperclassmen, one from San Francisco, CA and the other from Brooklyn, NY. The trio formed a group, "3 Assassins," that did a few recordings but never put together a serious demo. Through these experiences, Slick perfected his approach to recording delivery, mic presence, clarity, and breath. Towards the end of high school, Slick, best friend Ka$h Capone and close friends Big O and 1212 joined NBO Records and began writing songs for the upstart indie label. After a year of inactivity and creative differences the 4 friends decided to split from the label. In 2005, upon moving back to Atlanta from Tallahassee, Florida, Slick and his friends realigned to begin creating music again but this time the group formed their own label, GMD Recordings. It is through this label, this group of talented musicians and artists began to thrive. The quartet began recording, doing local shows in the southeast region of the U.S., gaining a hometown following and even getting radio airplay for their first single, "Why you think they pay me?," from their debut mixtape "Daily Grind Vol. 1." As the group began to mature and family life began to play significant parts in certain members lives the group's buzz slowed to a fizzle. Although recordings were still active they were at best on a hobbyists level. By 2011, CKT Slick decided to give the company, image, and brand a 21st century makeover. CKT Slick changed his name from Big Zillah to CKT Slick to represent his true self and the town he grew up in, ClarKsTon, Georgia. The company "GMD" was legitimately turned into a multimedia LLC, and the company realigned with Milticket Records to oversee the Recordings Division of GMD (Get More Done). Slick is a legitimate and consummate professional recording artist who seems to still continue to improve on his craft of song and hook writing. Be on the lookout for this bright star in the near future!
