The term ‘Progress Trap’ gained international attention when the Canadian historian and author Ronald Wright coined the term in his 2004 book, A Short History of Progress. Today, it can seem like society is even more trapped in the snare that Wright wrote about eight years ago. And in this episode of the CJSR Edition — the first in a series of programs dedicated to recordings from the Parkland Institute’s 16th annual fall conference entitled ‘Petro, Power, and Politics’ — Ronald Wright posits an argument that modern civilization’s exponential growth, fueled by fossil carbons is now threatening to destroy the natural world on which it depends.
