CityMusic Cleveland's 2011-12 season included a series focusing on composers affected by genocide and oppression. The programming was comprised of three different concerts about work by oppressed composers in Lakewood Public Library, The Maltz Museum, and Cleveland Public Library as well as a film screening at the CIA Cinematheque and a workshop by Facing History and Ourselves at John Carroll University. All this culminated in a 9-show production of Hans Krása's opera Brundibár, premiered in Theresienstadt Concentration Camp.
Our 4/11 concert at The Maltz Museum for Yom Hashoa ("Holocaust and Heroism Remembrance Day") focused on music by the composers of Thersienstadt Concentration Camp. Preceding every piece is an introduction by CityMusic Member Oboist Rebecca Schweigert Mayhew, who organized and performed in the concert.
