Circuitbored.
Bio:
"I like writing songs that are offensive...why make filthy dubstep music if the vibe and material isn’t filthy? You have to be offensive when you do dubstep. Because that’s what it is.”
circuitbored (aka Mike Vassallo) is an EDM producer with a dirty mind and a searing focus. With roots in the club culture of downtown Miami and the ragefully independent underground music scene of New Brunswick, circuitbored has dabbled in electro house, IDM, gabber, new wave, as well 8-bit/chip tunes, and only recently started producing and spinning the dubstep he is known for as of October 2010.
Since, circuitbored has been attacking the senses with his huge sound and novel hooks, sharing the stage with the likes of Proper Villains, Crisis Kid, Nicky Twist, Alex Plus, and Snake Child, and performing at venues such as Webster Hall, Loop Lounge, Churchhills, The Court Tavern, and various New Brunswick underground dubstep venues.
“Ice Cream Man” is circuitbored’s first signed release on Beatport and first endeavor that involved remixing hip-hop. Released under Bass Monster in August of 2011, the track is a remix for Texas rapper King Kano, who heard his music and reached out to ask for a remix of his own song of the same name. “Annie”, a recent circuitbored production, samples the musical of the same name and is anticipated to be his next release on Beatport.
Characteristically tongue-in-cheek, the true turning point for circuitbored when reflecting on his current music career was his remix of Rebecca Black’s “Friday”, affectionately dubbed the “Anal Filth Remix.” The tremendous exposure it garnered on Soundcloud and Youtube not only gained him the first surge of visibility he so needed to move forward, but built a foundation for the brand of explosive, incendiary music production that is circuitbored.
According to circuitbored, his personal approach to writing any sort of music places more emphasis on rhythm, rather than melody; naturally, being that he is also a drumming instructor and has been a drummer for almost 15 years. circuitbored muses that “without drums, you wouldn’t have dance music.”
He cites Excision, Datsik, Borgore, Downlink, Cookie Monsta, Kromestar, Funtcase and Doctor P as being major influences on his sound.
