Yebul is the Korean Zen Buddhism chant of gratitude, giving homage to Buddha, Dharma, Sangha and to all existence. Its simple, heartfelt melody has inspired me to create this piece, which I dedicate to Koho Vince Anila, guiding teacher of Still Point Zen Buddhist Temple in Detroit, who shared with me his field recording of a Korean monk chanting in the early morning, which is also featured in the second part of the piece. Koho has great energy and great stillness, and the piece reflects both qualities in its yin-yang-yin form.
