About

Chris Alker, aka The Dance Machine/DJ By Night has dedicated himself teaching New York how to dance. A self taught social engineer and rhythm scientist, he began spinning records, yes real ones, circa 1999 in Austin, TX. While in college, he carried on the tradition of the underground electronic radio show, "The Thirteenth Hour," founded by James "Cookiecrook" Craig and Scotty Kleven on 91.7 FM. Branching out beyond radio, he worked as many house parties as possible. Since moving to New York in 2004, he has thrown down his damaged disco record collection at more venues and launched more dance parties than you can shake a stick at. He shuns the genre cage and connects the dots between Indie Dance, Mutant Disco, Punk Funk, Deep House, Techno and Electro in any given set. He an ambassador for Subtrak Records, is a contributing writer for Magnetic Magazine/Crossfadr/Discosalt, and works as a residential designer.
