Chris Alker, aka The Dance Machine/DJ By Night has dedicated himself teaching New York how to dance. A self taught social engineer, "rhythm scientist" and street philosopher, he began spinning records, yes real ones, circa 1999 in Austin, TX. While in college, he carried on the tradition of the underground electronic radio show, "The Thirteenth Hour," founded by James "Cookiecrook" Craig and Scotty Kleven on 91.7 FM. Branching out beyond radio, he started working as many house parties as possible. Since moving to New York in 2004, he has thrown down his damaged disco record collection at more venues and launched more dance parties than you can shake a stick at. Drawing inspiration from art, architecture and fashion he connects the dots between Indie Dance, Mutant Disco, Punk Funk, House and Electro in any given set. He is the label manager for Subtrak Records, is a freelance music consultant and, in his spare time he designs buildings to make ends meet.
