Considered by many to be a founder of the mash-up movement, Z-Trip’s musical tastes are eclectic and his mixing style mirrors that eclecticism. His early independent releases have become highly sought after collectibles. Uneasy Listening, the collaboration with DJ P, was one of the first of its kind fusing classic 80s pop and disco with classic hiphpo breaks and the original records they sampled.
Recently, Shepard Fairey and Z-Trip threw some fundraisers for the Obama campaign. They called them “The Party for Change”. (If you don’t know who Shepard is—among many other things—he is the one responsible for the iconic image to the right that has become synonimous with the Obama campaign rally).
Z-Trip felt the fundraisers and what they stood for needed to be brought to a wider audience and no better way to reach that audience than through the web. So this mix was born out of that desire to spread the positive good word about Obama.
This podcast is seamless; it’s inspired use of vocal samples and politically charged music lends itself perfectly to the context of the mix - it’ll be interesting to listen to this in 4 years from now…
this track makes me happy, even though this things have never been myy type of style...
