The Soundiron Demo Democracy User submitted compositions showcasing our wide catalog of virtual instrument sample libraries
This is my entry for the Rust 1 Demo contest being conducted by Soundiron. All of the sounds in this track are from the Rust 1 v2.0 sample set. I did use EQ, compression and limiting, but everything else can be done within the Rust 1 v2.0 instruments.
The piece is in 5/4. The melodic instruments were created using the Mega Mixer Kontakt instrument from the samples of paint cans, a crowbar and pop can tabs. Other samples used include various strikes on a dumpster, a mine shaft, chairs, bottles handrails, monkey balls, etc. I used the Untuned Instrument patch as well as individual Ensemble patches.
All of the interface features were used somewhere in the track. The Uberpeggiator was used on the Dumpster ensemble. Tremolo was used on some non-pitched paint cans and the Filter was used as well.
Soundiron gives you all the tools you need to take raw samples and do some magical sound design.
Enjoy!
UPDATE: The guys at Soundiron selected this track, as well as four others, as an official demo track for Rust 1. You can check out all of the demos at Rust 1 by Soundiron/

@Chasing Andromeda: Excellent, man--makes me want to try to use Rust 1 & 2 (and 3 whenever I get it) in a more musical fashion!

@King Seamus: Thanks for the kind words, Thomas. I was inspired to try this by the amount of control the Rust interface gives and by the piece for percussion ensemble entitled, "Three Asiatic Dances" by George Frock. Frock writes a part for four metallic sounds. We always used brake drums in high school. It gave the piece such character and I had that in mind when designing and writing.

Great stuff, Michael! As ONEMADMANC commented, this is a surprisingly musical piece for a set of instruments that I've always approached in a purely percussive and atonal way.
