Charly (Lauren Schwert) began her journey in dance music in 1992 at the age of 8. Her greatest childhood memories consist of listening to The Prodigy, Moby, and Terrorize, among others. By the age of 12 she was composing music on the piano and writing lyrics. In January 1998, when she was 14 years old, she stumbled upon Drum and Bass, and she never looked back. She found herself most interested in Ragga and Jungle. This high energy music inspired her to acquire Sonic Foundry's Acid; making her own tracks became a standard practice.
On her 15th birthday, Lauren plugged in her first DJ setup and thus, Charly was born. It was a mere four months of being a bedroom DJ before she was booked to play her first show with Reid Speed and Empress in Philadelphia. Soon after she played with Calyx in DC, and then began playing in cities up and down the east coast, sharing bills with Total Science, UFO!, L Double, DJ SS and more.

In 2001 Showtime Movie Network produced a series about twelve DJs around the United States, featuring Reid Speed, Disco D, DJ Craze, DJ Icon, Charly. She appeared in Billboard magazine following its release in 2002.

In 2005 she briefly joined forces with Texel and Cyanide of Quadrant. It was then she was granted the opportunity to learn better production and engineering techniques in Logic Pro. Closure was released on Renegade Hardware's Hardware Chronicles Volume 5, and Only Mortal/Hell Can Wait came out on Citrus in 2007.
By 2006 Charly landed in Seattle. Here she has established herself as a well respected DJ, known for her tight mixes and inspired track selection. She regularly plays many of Seattle's long time running DnB nights such as Onset, DnB Tuesdays, and Free Bass. In 2009 Charly placed 3rd in the Northwest DnB DJ Competition out of 40 DJs.
You may find it interesting to know Charly has had no formal training since she was a child, cannot read music, and has never gone to school for audio engineering. Everything is done by ear. While she does not generally make "Drum and Bass," her music is based on big breaks and massive low end frequencies. "I Exist" was released under her former moniker, Girl Gone, on Global Vortex Recordings' Into The Vortex Volume 2 in 2010. Her music is also featured at www.polygraphradio.com, an internet radio station dedicated to artists who stand against the tyranny of the New World Order.
Charly has a distinct sound that is difficult to classify in a traditional genre. Her recent tracks have been described as "True Independent Dance Music."
