About
THE CHANCELLOR (aka Chance Nasty)
Jackson, MI - Jungle/Hip Hop/Whatever -Dubatomic/Eclectic Grooves/Analog Beats/Under the Detroit Moon
-Raised in the sticks a half hour south of Jackson, MI, Brian Boggs, aka The Chancellor, comes from a musical heritage. His grandfather was a big-band drummer in the 40s, his father a rock drummer in the mid 70s, his brother a drummer for Jackson-based The Heads Of Our Enemies. His personal affair with music began in 1992, when he became infatuated with hip hop. In 1993, he made his first emceeing cameo on Efemjay's cult classic 'Reebok Pimps' single, and followed this up with various verses and productions on an array of local releases. After releasing 'On & On' in early 1998, the artist known at the time as Dzel took respite from the music world, albeit briefly - in 2000, he discovered the ecclectic noise of jungle music and it was on again, picking up some turntables, the moniker 'Dayglo', and jumping head-on into the world of electronic music. After a foray that saw him playing shows from Chicago to Toronto, and everywhere in between, in 2004 he took a sabbatical to pursue other musical endeavours, such as working with a few local rock bands, re-learning the art of track production, playing rare shows here and there, but staying on the low-key end of things. In late 2008, he was taken in under the wing of the irreverent DJ Psycho, revamped his image, stepped his game up, and was thoroughly reborn as the versatile personality known as The Chancellor. 2009 saw him reuniting with his former partner Efemjay, producing two tracks and emceeing on two tracks on the album 'Full Blown Aids'.2010 brought a temporary relocation to Chicago and a return to his roots, introducing new heads to the classic jump up and ragga sound of days past. Now, in 2011, in addition to frontlining the ragga jungle sound in Michigan, Chance Nasty is compiling material for a new album, 'The Manhattan Project', touted as a hybrid of all things hip hop and electronica, that will feature him on all fronts - DJing, emceeing, and producing - as well as feature some of the finest lyricists Michigan has to offer, as well as teaming up with Efemjay to put in work on a release under the alias FlashNasty - a vulgar, cult classic hip hop project initiated with the nefarious 'So Trashy'.
