About

Cavan Fyans is a PhD research student, instrument builder, noise maker & improviser. Currently located in the Sonic Arts Research Centre (SARC), Queen's University Belfast. Cavan's research examines the spectator's cognition of interaction and performance in communicative interactions with technology. Primarily the spectator's understanding of musical performance on digital musical instruments. Cavan also devotes time to developing new and innovative ways of breaking cheap electronic toys (Circuit Bending) and constructing circuitry for sonic creation. Both practices for the purpose of developing new musical instruments for live performance. Alongside these instruments Cavan also practices instrumental laptop performance and Bass and can be seen making noise regularly in groups such as E=MCH, Noise. Stop. Repeat. QUBe, The Open Jack Collective, The Belfast Legion for Improvised Sights and Sounds (BLISS) and The Summer Experiment.
