Salam bro - love this part. Really good to see that you reverted and so pleased your music is out there for others in the main to gain inspiration from, ponder and think. So refreshing, mashallah. Would love to know more about why you got into Islam...

@djumb: haha its cool, I didnt wanna start a beef lol! I can't really say im a sufi expert but I think the ney plays a keyrole in turkish sufi music and that instrument he plays great! I actually had to listen to his 2 latest albums (Su & 800) to just check if I still think they are great and I still do! I do agree that many tracks are very mellow and therefore sound alike BUT the mood and atmosphere is still great and I guess he wanted to capture that whirling feeling of a turkish dervish ;) There are some outstanding tracks ("tutsak" the baglamas gives me goosebumps) on those 2 albums, but like u said music is a matter of taste! And thanks for the compliment! No hard feelings, right??!!

@globa: p.s. yes he's been very lucky to work with some phenomenal musicians, Jan Garbarek and many others but that does not make him great and the collaborations were at best weak...demonstrating his propensity to make average music....I'm sure any other artist who had those kind of artists at his disposal would have ended up making enduring classics.....As I said before, Mercan Dede is much better as a Club DJ with his ARKIN ALLEN club music which is more than average but when he tries to do the serious muso stuff he fails miserably in my opinion and even more so with SUFI music....it is just not SUFI to me....and I have no personal agenda to dislike his sufi music either, I just could never understand what all the fuss was about and most of that fuss was industry manufactured..I;m sorry just the way I feel about it and I do really like what you do..lol

@globa: bashing is a matter of opinion and music is matter of taste...why is he great because all the world music press told you he is great ? and because he's palatable to western ears?...IMHO, he is not great at best he is average, very average....and all his songs sound the same and go absolutely NOWHERE..they just whirl around in a circle and make me dizzy, they do not take me to a higher spiritual plain as sufi music ought to...it is not hate either but my opinion...all the best bro and if you think he is great you are entitled to think that and believe it...I don't want to take that away from you

hmmm sorry to hear the bashing of a great artist and fellow musician (infact all the great turkish musicians he has worked with) this track of his is actually one of the most spiritual songs I have ever heard http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ftl6KW00s3A&feature=related anyway, stop the hate ;)

@djumb: Yeah i must admit Arkin Allen is much better than the perrenialism of this psudo sufiq music known as mercen dede.

@Celt Islam: hahaha Mercan Dede needs to collaborate with some real music I think and not the stuff you listen to watch paint dry or hang up the wallpaper....lol....over-rated, manufactured for the west and not really that good IMHO...now. he's ARKIN ALLEN stuff was quite tasty but his Sufi drivel, man I'm ashamed that the word SUFI is attached to it!
