13 tracks, 52.15 CAYETANO on July 10, 2012 20:04

Every few days, a track snippet will be uploaded here... So, step by step, you'll have the chance to listen what's all about...

The "ONCE SOMETIME" album will be released on September's 17th from Pale Sound Records (a division of KLIK Records)

1. Tower Of Power
It's been a hard period with riots not only in Greece but in general... For some months, people felt powerful and didn't mind to get involved in a straight fight with the Police forces. Fires, chemicals, blood... At the same time you could see smiles in the faces of the people. You could feel the solidarity between them. And this was the detail that gave birth to this track. A strong beat, brasses all over and an optimism that can't be defeated. This is the "Tower Of Power". A tower with some fearless and at times heroic residents.

Musicians played:
Giorgos "Cayetano" Bratanis - keyboards, sampling, piano, percussions
Dimitris Tselios - flute
John Bellos - Bass
Alex Archontis - drums

2. Babylon On Fire feat. NEK

In 2011, NEK and I were discussing the social situation in the cosmic village of Athens, where the remains luxurious past are all but lost.
Amongst the underprivileged are hopeless immigrants, junkies, mothers watching mothers who are scavenging food, kids earning their daily bread by cleaning dirty car windows and even police officers.
They have been thrown into hell; into a colorful puzzle. A real Babylon, made up of different people with different needs.
I had composed a powerful tune keeping this entire situation in mind which Dj Booker caught the meaning of. In response, he scratched a sample, saying "You put a wax on a table and you set it on fire."
On the other hand, NEK, who is one of the best freestylers around, immediately wrote lyrics based on this "social fire" and started singing.
And so, "Babylon On Fire" was ready!

Musicians played:
Giorgos "Cayetano" Bratanis - keyboards, sampling, piano, percussions
Dimitris Tselios - flute
John Bellos - bass
Alex Archontis - drums
Tasos Peltekis - guitar
Dj Booker - scratches
NEK - lyrics and vocals

3. There Is A Sky Now feat. Georges Perin

I spent a lazy noon under the burning sun, missing her. She drew me close; I could no longer stay at home. I walked over to the other side of Athens, which some pleasant decades ago was the heart of its once prosperous industry, to find all but ruins, abandoned factories and dirt roads left. In my head played scenes from typical 70s gangster films, with level-headed pimps in Cadillacs, their hookers and dueling gangs all about this ideal place for such events. While standing in this wild scene, I started listening to the beat it played to me.
When I returned to the studio, I started creating some instrumentation based on my images from the scene. The song was certainly ready, but I felt something important was missing. Georges Perin then came into the studio to sing out one of the most spectacular performances he has ever done to the haunting lyrics which Panagiotis Skraparlis wrote for this tune. And so, "There Is A Sky Now" was done!

Musicians played:
Giorgos "Cayetano" Bratanis - keyboards, sampling, piano, percussions
Dimitris Tselios - flute
John Bellos - bass
Alex Archontis - drums
Tasos Peltekis - guitar
Dimitris Dalezis - brasses
Georges Perin - vocals
Panagiotis Skraparlis - lyrics

4. TAKE YOUR GUN

The world was shocked by the massacre in Norway. On 22 July 2011, Behring Breivik killed many innocent young people in summer camp for… nothing! What ran through his head? How someone can be so fanatic and cynical? There are no answers. I tried to create a story; from the early morning's calm, to the lunatic's preparation and then his hunt for young flesh.

The moving lyrics and fantastic voice of Stefanatty, frontman of the group "ONE DROP" and perhaps the best reggae singer in Greece, embody this musical landscape perfectly.

"TAKE YOUR GUN" is for all the guys that lived this nightmare, and this does not mean only the survivors.

Musicians played:
Giorgos "Cayetano" Bratanis - keyboards, sampling, piano, percussions
John Bellos - bass
Alex Archontis - drums
Tasos Peltekis - guitar
Stefanatty - lyrics and vocals

5. NEVER GONNA HAPPEN TWICE

People say "truth be told" when clearing up a misunderstanding. From first impression, the piano chord which opens the track "Never gonna happen twice" is sad, but expectations turn when it becomes an optimistic object. In a blend with sounds from a melodica and a familiar melody, the music plays brilliantly to the rhythm of the drum sequencer. The foundation of the song is done, so what follows must be a new, more personal element; the "truth". "I've listened once to my friend's advice and it's never gonna happen twice" echo the song's lyrics.

Then the slide guitar brings that sweep of truth into the song to enforce these thoughts. All was done so quickly on a lazy afternoon, a testament to the truth that a simple story tells simple things and simple truths.

Musicians played:
Giorgos "Cayetano" Bratanis - programming, sampling, melodica, bass, keyboards
Tasos Peltekis - slide guitar
Alex Archontis - drums

6. BE MY QUEEN

I spent a nice evening lazing in the studio with a glass of wine in my hand while partaking in valuable conversation. Within this relaxing atmosphere, my fingers began to take on a life of their own as a melody formed while I was playing with some piano keys. It was a melody that really struck me and stayed in my mind and my heart through to the next morning.

When I prepared myself a coffee, I sat in front of the piano and played the melody again. When I pushed the record button, a song was forming and it was a tune that was very simple and held a great deal of personal truth. It rung memories of the night before; a night whose goodness I owe to good company. There was nothing more common and honest that could be sung over this track than simply "All I ever want to do is thank you baby!"
It was how "Be My Queen" earned a special place from my heart on the new album.

Musicians played:
Giorgos "Cayetano" Bratanis - piano, LFO's, mellotron, sampling
John Bellos - bass
Alex Archondis - drums

7. CHIN ACHIN

It was a long travel from Athens to Thessaloniki by train. Due to strikes, we had a delay so the trip lasted longer than expected. In the meanwhile, I went inbetween the wagons to light a cigarette. I left the train doors open and there was a tremendous noise.
Suddenly, I noticed I started instinctively singing a baseline over the noise that was coming from the train tracks; it was an incredible noise and I was moved to record it with my phone.

After a week, I came home to my studio. When I recorded a baseline in tune with a piano chord, I began composing a rhythmic section that could wheel in that noise from the train with the jazzy tune my hands swung with. When my song flourished, I knew that nothing could make it bloom more than a sharp flute playing alongside a smooth saxophone.

Don't ask what "CHIN ACHIN" means, I finished it and made it for you to discover.

Musicians played:
Giorgos "Cayetano" Bratanis - piano, bass, LFO's, sampling
Dimitris Tselios - flute, saxophone
Alex Archondis - drums

Giorgos "Cayetano" Bratanis - piano, rhodes, LFO's, sampling
John Bellos - bass
Alex Archondis - drums
Dimitris Tselios - Saxophone
Dimitris Dalezis - brasses
