About

CAV3 is a multi-instrumentalist producer, songwriter, and DJ currently residing in the City of Angels, California. First inspired by such artists as DJ Krush, Ken Ishii, Autechre, and The Fugees, CAV3 began composing around the age of 14, roughly 10 years ago, in his home town of Dallas, Texas. After moving to Berkeley, California in 2003 for college, he launched himself into the local scene with his debut instrumental album entitled "Sticks and Stones," (released under the original moniker “Caveman”) and eventually linked with many other talented artists in the steady-bubbling San Francisco Bay Area music swamp. He has since grown into his own sound, an exotic and unforgettable blend of bedrock hip-hop, UFO space-juice, samurai slicing, roots rhythm, Ghost-phunk, and primal blappistry. While CAV3 continues to blaze new musical trails, he finds it important to stay true to the original sounds that first inspired him, thus the undeniable thump, slap, crunch, juice, and sparkle are the common denominators throughout all of his diverse body of work. CAV3 approaches his life and music with passion, idealism, and reverence, never afraid to put his heart on his sleeve and push the envelope. 2008 saw the release of his self-produced lyrical debut album entitled “A.R.T. / Advanced Research & Technology,”which is still rippling throughout the ethosphere as an underground classic and a blazing vector of Spirit-fire. In 2010, CAV3 released another beat album, entitled “Ghost Phunk,” as well as his sophomore lyrical full-length, “Arkatype.” His beats are also moving through the surf-world as Clay Marzo (one of the world’s youngest and greatest surfers as well as a close personal friend of CAV3’s) and his media-team at Quiksilver have taken a special interest in CAV3’s music. Recently CAV3 toured Japan with Shing02 and DJ Icewater, promoting their new projects, including 400[yomi], a remix album recently released on Tokyo’s Maryjoy Recordings label, featuring a bulk of production by CAV3; Shing02 and CAV3 are continuing their collaboration as they build together on Shingo’s forthcoming all-english rap album entitled RxOxTxO.CAV3 is currently working on a number of new solo works as well as collaborations with other artists including Cygnus, and Gumshoe (CAV3 + Gumshoe = Recess), and is also an artist-in-residence at The Embassy (www.theembassy.cc), an LA-based alternative church/spiritual-center with a burgeoning live-music program. Stay tuned for more developments in 2011 and beyond...
