The Helsinki-based duo Carmen & The Devil started out as an attempt to explore the musical and lyrical landscapes of American singer-songwriter Gillian Welch. Since their first show in late 2010, the duo's repertoire has expanded to include original numbers and music of various artists and songwriters, such as Hank Williams, Bob Dylan, Holly Golightly, Alison Krauss, Kasey Chambers, and The White Stripes. Carmen & The Devil like the American old time lonesome sound with emphasis on vocal harmonies, and accompany themselves on acoustic instruments, such as guitar, fiddle, banjo, and mandolin.
