I am a Swedish pianist and composer focusing mainly on improvisation as musical expression in the fields of both jazz, folk and Classical as well as contemporary experimental piano music. Love working with music for film, tv, theatre, art and poetry.
Keith Jarrett, Björk, Stravinskij, Beatles, Chopin, Liszt, Satie, Herbie Hancock, Bill Evans, Paul Bley, Esbjörn Svensson (EST), Jan Garbarek, Arvo Pärt, T. Monk, Charlie Parker, Glen Gould, Skrjabin, Busoni, Jan Johansson, Nordic folklore and of course Bach and Mozart. There are also a number of film scores that inspires me a lot, such as the Godfather's theme and for example how Ligeti and Penderecki are used in 2001 and The Shining.
I started my musical studies with classical piano but shifted early to jazz piano studies and worked on my own song writing. Won some Swedish music competitions as a teen and began singing classical choir music. I also have studied musicology, composition and film music as well as film history.
I have written music for theatre plays, short films and art and poetry projects. Made jazz poetry together with poets and singers, improvising piano music during poetry slams.
I am a dualistic and expressionistic piano player with impressionistic and minimalistic skills. Rhythm is significantly important but melody is the key to capture both myself and the listener. I like light harmonic structure and contrasts. Call me a neo-romantic or neo-classicist.
The acoustic piano and grand piano are together with the Fender Rhodes electrical piano the only instruments I manage to handle. Digital pianos and synthesizers make both my fingers and my creativity paralyze.
My goal is to explore and evolve my way of handling the acoustic resonance, tone and overall sound.
The piano is a finger drum with tones...
