About

I created this batch of recordings for the song-a-day project sponsored by netscrap.com ( 29.netscrap.com ) in my living room, using Cubase and whatever instruments I have laying around.

My five-year-old daughter just walked in the room and asked me what I'm listening to. Her immediate response: "It sounds nice!" This is beautiful music.

@MBO: So you agree with me that hihats are the devil's instrument - and should be BANNED from drumkits altogether? One of the great mysteries of life is that one sees hundreds of photos taken of drums being miked up in studios, and there's always a HH mike. That means the HH is not nearly loud enough and must be boosted in level for most drum recordings. Huh? Could you imagine INCREASING the level of the HH track?

@MBO: Yes it is, but there's nothing I can do to change it. This was recorded with 3 mics: U87 overhead, SM81 below the snare and a D112 on the kick. I've been experimenting lately with Moongel on the hi hats, just to tame the highs a bit. I think it helps, but even though I hit them fairly lightly, the compression brings out the fizzy high frequencies on the hats, which I hate. What I really need are clanky-sounding hats.
