This is a 13 minute recording of a single male humpback whale. The song of the humpback whale is one of the most complex vocalizations in the entire animal kingdom. This recording was taken on Feb. 10, 2011 in the Sanctuary for the Marine Mammals of the Dominican Republic, located on the Silver Bank, during a Conscious Breath Adventures cruise to visit the humpback whales which gather there every winter (www.ConsciousBreathAdventures.com). The recording starts out loud but the volume varies as the boat drifts further from the singer. This is the first recording of the 2011 season, part of the complete song which was 15:00 minutes in length.
