This is a recording of humpback whales singing on the Silver Bank, Dominican Republic, made on Feb. 15, during Week 3 of the 2011 season. Humpback whales gather by the thousands to court, mate and give birth. As part of the socializing, male humpback whales sing their song to attract a female or to establish territory with other males. In this recording there were so many whales singing that it was not possible to discern individual whales clearly or establish a count. By my best estimation, there were 12-15 whales audible, the most I have ever heard at one time.
