Asthmes, Abîme (s) and Brume (s) constitute a series of variations around "tints", around close sound colours. I tried to sculpt vacant spaces, mental landscapes, internal deserts with sounds. I have been very inspired by the paintings of Zao Wou Ki. By essence, these paintings are motionless internal landscapes, but meanwhile they evoke to me something in perpetual movement. I wanted to transcribe this idea of a sluggish landscape but anyhow inhabited by imperceptible swirls; and so, by the use of loops melted the ones in the others, almost similar, but at every time different. Another imaging which helped me to formulate this series of variations comes from Francis Bacon's paintings, and in particular Three studies for figures at the base of a crucifixion. Effectively, there is also in Bacon’s painting this paradoxical dimension of a fixed picture with an appearance of movement (cf. the portraits he painted). But moreover there is a sound dimension: every time I look at Three studies for figures at the base of a crucifixion or Study after Velázquez's portrait of Pope Innocent X, I have the feeling to hear a deaf roaring; that I tried to integrate into my three musical variations.
