The Netherlands has historically been a hotbed for artistic talent. Since the 17th Century, the Dutch have been laundered worldwide for legendary artists and astonishing ability on canvas. The Dutch music scene, in particular the electronic one, has been pivotal in the explosion of another artform, dance music. Unfailingly, a new generation just keeps on coming though – today’s generation, that of rising star Camiel Daamen, is currently upon us.

The multi-talented Camiel began his musical adventure over a decade ago, back in 1998. He was fascinated by music in general, and was adept at working early synths and computers to get the sounds he desired from them. Camiel is a producer at heart, someone who is happy to lock down and work on a track for days on end, honing the sounds to maximum effect.

After many years of studio work and expanding his knowledge, it was time for the first releases. Camiel released new and existing tracks on Method Records, Atlant, Cloud 9, Surge, Galvanic, Outside the Box, Hertz Music, Klopfgeist, PiekUp Records, Act Natural Records, Soulman Music and Florian Meindl's Flash Records.

These releases helped him take his first steps into the DJ world, with gigs at venues in Holland and abroad. One of Camiel’s first international gigs was in Poland, where he played the Sunrise festival as Da-Milio. He also played at Club Ekwador in Poznan. These gigs offered a good experience for him to develop his sound and prompted him to take the decision to do a couple of sets using only his own productions.

Now working with full power, this talented and unassuming Dutchman subsequently signed records and remixes on Surge Digital (USA), Magnitude Records (NL) and Atlant Digital (France) to get his new music out into the world. His "For Fleuro EP" on Magnitude reached number 4 in the progressive house chart and "Back to the Start" on Surge got listed in the Deep House top 100 chart on Beatport. He also signed a few records at Hertzmusic, including a remix for Ante Perry’s Tasty which was released around September 2009 and was featured on Tom Novy's "So Deep So Liquid" compilation. Daredo Music also signed his music for a release on Galvanic. The Last Ride EP did really well in all the charts and the track The Last Ride even reached number 29 in the Dutch Techno Top 40 of 2009.

2010 was unquestionably Camiel’s breakthrough year. His releases on Soulman, Hertzlich and PiekUp garnered support from the taste-making DJs, such as Loco Dice, Brothers Vibe, 2000 and One, Sandy Huner, Evren Ulusoy and Darius Syrossian just to name a few. His last Soulman release "No Game" topped the Soulman and Minimo charts for many weeks, proof that this rising talent has carved out a real niche for himself in the market.

This year has been Camiel’s biggest year to date. He has played some of the cream of clubs and festivals all over Holland, including Stubnitz, Studio 80 (24 Hour Party People resident), TWSTd QNSNGHT, Rockit Open Air Festival, Have a Nice Day Festival, Outdoor Stereo Festival, Catwalk Rotterdam, Winkel van Sinkel. Camiel is also broadening his horizons internationally, with a recent performance at Salon zur Wilden Renate (Berlin) and dates already scheduled for London and Berlin again.

The future looks bright for Camiel, with productions forthcoming on Klopfgeist, BlaBla (Together with Unders) and Breakout Audio. Camiel's sound is unique, highly in demand and has the same traits of independence and freedom that his artistic forebearers embraced many years ago.
