Snoretex is the solo recording project from Sam Willis, one of half of WALLS, the two-piece signed to Kompakt who released their debut album last to a cluster of killer reviews. Mojo made it ‘Electronica Album Of The Year’, while the NME, iDJ and DJ magazine all garnered it with 9/10 ratings. Snoretex inhabits a similar world. Woozy, opaque layers and crystal melodies are skewered with fuzz and feedback over burbling midtempo drums and sequencers. ‘Imagine a world where Philip Glass, Harmonia and Mr Fingers intermingle in euphoric hamony,’ says Sam smiling. ‘Strange Aeons’ is one of the first Snoretex fruits to blossom. An early mixdown circulated on some key underground blogs towards the end of last year, while Buzzin’ Fly boss Ben Watt featured it in his new Sunday night radio residency at BBC 6Music. Now sweetened and re-mastered it makes its full release on Buzzin’ Fly. On the flipside Watt coaxes longtime Chicago underground house dons, Boo Williams and Glenn Underground out into the light. Famous for releases on labels such as Guidance Recordings, Rush Hour and Cajual, here they adopt their SJU Muzic (Strictly Jaz Unit) moniker to deliver a superb spacey-but-bumpin’ house re-interpretation.
