Burleskimo are a 5 piece hip -hop/funk/rock fusion from the musical melting pot that is the Steel City of Sheffield. Diverse in influence and style, yet an undeniably coherent force; they have been refreshing the Sheffield scene with their inimitable take on the hip-hop genre since 2010. From illustrious beginnings with major slots at 'Peace in the Park' and'Y-Not' festivals, the band has gone forward to record and E.P and secure distribution with the City's hottest label - Itchy Pig Records.
Master of Ceremonies, Mr Mike Curran AKA 'Copius', a self confessed southerner of six foot two, brings a big approach to his writing and performing. Hos commentary deftly swings from sunny scenes with mates down the park to weightier issues;always delivered with lubricious flow and acute rhythm.
Counterpoint to this is the oh so soulful 'Sista' Danae Wellington; gorgeous, smoky vocals alongside more than a modicum of rapping talent feel like a nod in Badu's direction. Just a nod mind!
Mix this with the Chili Pepper-esque licks and Rage inspired riffs of axe-man Mark Williamson; a hearty dash of deep-sea funk bass from Ed Chester and the SUPERhuman beatbox/drummer machine that is 'Unome' and you have a recipe for aural carnage unrivalled in these parts!
