The bowel cancer screening programme is a new national screening programme that aims to identify bowel cancer at an early stage when treatment can be more effective. It involves providing a stool sample. The kit can be completed in the persons own home before being sent off for testing. In Nottingham, the bowel cancer screening test kit is sent out to people aged 60-69, although only half of those receiving the kit actually complete and return it.

Bright Ideas is a community based organisation that engages and involves local people and we have been commissioned by NHS Nottingham City to explore the views of people aged 60-69 who live in Nottingham City.

We have already spoken to over 200 men and women who have told us about their experience of receiving the kit. We are now trying to find out what encourages people to complete and return the sample and what stops others. We would particularly like to speak with more men.
