Raw Interview: Witness Describes Empire State Building Shooting

I spoke with a witness at the scene of the Empire State Building shooting earlier this morning. Her name was Monica. She was leaving her dentist when shots rang out at 34th and 5th.

TRANSCRIPT

Q: What happened when you were here this morning?

A: When I heard I was crossing the street‹I wanted to cross the street. I
saw two guys on the corner selling the tickets for the tours, and I was
walking when I heard two shots. Strong. And some people falling‹was down
on the floor. I saw that, and I started to run this way. Ok. And then I
started to go inside to the Desigual, and the man who was next to me was
falling.

Q: So the man was falling?

A: Yes. And I went inside and I started to say to the people inside the
store,²Close the door. Close the door. Turn down the music. ³ And
suddenly I went to watch what happened outside and the man who was
falling next to me was shot. And I saw two guys in the corner who was
selling the tickets was shot. And that¹s it. This is everything that I
saw. It was scary. And ok.

Q: How many people did you see get shot? Two? Three?

A: Three. Two in the corner. And one in the second plant that is there.
Because I was there. And that¹s it.

Q: Did you see the gunman get shot?

A: No.

Q: Did you see the gunman at all?

A: I don¹t know. I tried to run. Because this is minutes. Imagine this
happening in one minute. Two minutes. I don¹t know. So you don¹t want to
see anything. You want to survive. And that¹s it.

Q: Do you work in the area or live in the area?

A: No. I went to the dentist one block from here.
