From Dublin band Entheos! www.myspace.com/entheosinfo
Entheos began with brothers Brian and Dave Killoran writing music on acoustic guitars and playing small open mic gigs in Dublin . With the addition of bass player Keith Walsh Entheos was born. They recorded their first 5 track E.P ‘No Masters’ in 2006 and continued playing live. In 2007 Violin player Enid Conaghan joined the group and added a new depth and intricacy to their sound. In 2008 they recorded a second 5 track E.P Common Ground incorporating percussion instruments such as Djembe, Bodhrán and cymbals. These 5 tracks were merged with new tracks recorded in 2009 and resulted in the album ‘III’. Entheos have made a name for themselves as an outstanding live act playing venues such as The Cobblestone, Toners, Whelan's, The Village, and Radio city amongst others around Leinster and in far flung places such as Warsaw in Poland!. Entheos have also played support to some of the biggest names in Irish music, including Damien Dempsey, Grada and Kila. Entheos are currently recording new material and hope to release either an EP or Album in 2011.
“a five-piece acoustic unit that play a gritty form of guitar-driven folk…with galloping rhythms…attractive mid Eastern flavours, sturdy bodhran and gutsy vocals…” Hot Press
"The most striking feature of Entheos is Brian's quality grungy vocals. These vocals along with the celtic acoustic rock sound makes Entheos a band which stands alone genre-wise. In the past I've compared the band to a modern Horslips. III contains ten quality tracks. In Each Other's Arms is a really good love song. Six Days Gone is an amazing song live as it has an energetic Kila-esque outro. Dark Matter showcases Brian's vocals. The strong lyrics can be very atmospheric and dark in nature but also show that Brian has much to say. 10 out of 12". 2uibestow Irish Music Blog album review.
‘Ten track album from this Irish based folk rock outfit. The album features a selection of classic old folk sounds blended with hints of Irish trad, eastern folk and world music. It’s an album that happily sees bodhran and djembe sit side by side. With sounds ranging from pure mellow acoustic folk to a slightly more up-tempo rock sound.’ Road Records.
‘Drawing on their roots in the gritty side of rock, contemporary folk, and classical and traditional music, Entheos create a sound that is unique, sometimes dark, and consistently hard to define. On ‘III’ they have woven a fluid structure of vocals, guitars, violins, percussion and melodies, and the result is truly amazing’. Midland Tribune.
