About
Often described as "genius" by a wealth of the planet's trendsetters, Brassica is music by UK producer Michael Anthony Wright. A lineage from Disco-Funk, experimental music, Progressive Rock, 70s & 80s synth music and the history of sound in cinema is evident, yet doesn't accurately describe his artistically individual and self-mentored sound. Brassica has released music on a variety of underground labels and is in demand for his unpredictable remix style. As well as releasing records and playing live, Mike composes music for media and has recently become an in-house composer for Jeff Wayne Music.
Mike started his musical life during his teens as a bass player in his hometown of Folkestone, Kent, playing hardcore/metal/progressive rock. This was slowly superseded with a fascination in music's outer limits during his undergraduate study in Sound Arts & Design at the London College of Communication. He became active on London's improvised music scene, playing with anyone from poets to The London Sinfonietta. Mike stuck around after university and explored London's dance music club scenes, feeling at home with music built from the machines of yesteryear. This inspired his first few synth-based tracks such as The Centre which still carried heavy hints of experimental approaches. These were immortalised in wax in 2009 by Dissident Distribution creating a ripple of subsequent releases, performances and international recognition.
