Exclusive Interview & Live Mix from Tuccillo
BB - How would you describe the music you create to someone who hadn't heard any of your productions?
Tuccillo - There are many possible descriptions, but I would have to say that its simply music made with the heart. I try to print or reflect my feelings in all my productions.
BB - I, personally find it very hard to describe your music to people as it varies so much from release to release. Do you constantly try to produce different types of music or is there another reason for the vast collection of varied sounds coming from your studio?
Tuccillo - Well, I enjoy creating music, the sensation of this moment has no comparison. Sometimes I hear a flavor or a noise that sparks the creativity, or the moment of the night, or even when I'm quiet and away from noises or distraction.
BB - You are coming to London in September for a rare DJ appearance, what do you like or dislike about our clubbing/music scene?
Tuccillo - Hahaha, this is funny! I would like very much to come to London more often, especially since the music that I'm releasing is almost exclusively with English labels. London has a sensational pulse and a unique flowing musical culture like no other city in Europe. The diversity of sounds that flow from the warehouses, car parks, roof tops and traditional clubs in London mean it is perfect for my musical style.
BB - Many of us enjoy a holiday to Ibiza, what was your motivation/reasoning for moving there full time rather than just fly in and out like many international artists such as yourself?
Tuccillo - Well, that is something that was not planned, in the beginning I was only producing Lounge or Chill music, so it was the natural place to be for inspiration. I then took the natural progression into DJ'ing, discovered House and developed my sound further. After I started to receive some positive feedback from island regulars it was evident that this was where I needed to be. Many people aren't able to live here all year round because they find the winter months so tough on them. I like the island exactly for that reason, I get my peace and quiet in winter and can reflect.
BB - You will be playing two separate DJ sets for Bounce Back on the 8th Sept. Do you enjoy showcasing different types of music within your sets?
Tuccillo - Ive never done this before! I think I may surprise you! Hahaha! It's great to play varied sounds within the house music spectrum and I'm sure that with two sets, totaling 4 hours, I will get through a sizable amount!
BB - What have you heard about the Bounce Back parties in London?
Tuccillo - It's hard to get too much information out here to an extent as your sort of in an Ibiza bubble. However, I've played and spoken to other DJ's/Producers who have had first hand experience with the brand and all the feedback has been fantastic. I try to be quite selective over the bookings I accept as sometimes quality over quantity is better and from what I know, Bounce Back is quality! True? Hahaha! With good house music you can't go too far wrong :)
BB - You have kindly put together an exclusive DJ mix to give us a little taste of what to expect upon your visit to the UK, what can you tell us about the mix?
Tuccillo - I prefer not to say too much as I like people to listen to the music with an open mind and not knowing what to expect, it's more fun that way. Just hit play!
BB - What is the most embarressing thing to happen to you at a gig? Honestly!
Tuccillo - One time I was contracted to play at a private party for an important person on his 80th birthday, the guests were also friends and of similar age. The problem was that they installed the dance floor close to an arabic fountain that was difficult to see, and I spent all night helping guests get out of this fountain as they kept falling in.
BB - You are playing your last gig before retirement; you can pick 4 DJ's to play alongside you. Who would you pick and why?
Tuccillo - Todd Terry & Louie Vega, because they are both pioneers and don't need anymore explanation than that. Simply for his sound and the way he is, Willie Graff, he is also my other half, musically, and Dj Pippi, because I started with him so it's fitting I would finish with him.
BB - Pacha - Ibiza or DC10?
Tuccillo - Pacha - Ibiza
BB - DJ'ing or Producing?
Tuccillo - Producing
BB - Italy or Spain?
Tuccillo - C'mon!!!! That's not fair!!!
BB - Love or Music?
Tuccillo - There can be no music without love
