About
Hi! So surprised at the number of people who drop by every week to check out my profile. Makes me think it might be worthwhile starting a blog afterall.
Anyway 'm just an elderly man who seems to have been buying records for my own listening pleasure for an awful long time.
Most of my purchases over the years have been middle of the road commercial fodder with the odd departure into something slightly different. The last 8 years being my longest diversion from the mainstream, very much thanks to Bill & Frank's book and my wife's determination that broadband was a good idea ...
I was brought up on 78rpm records that my parents played - Tubby the Tuba; I Know An Old Lady; Snow White & the 7 Dwarves; Dem Bones; The Blubell Polka.
I bought some more 78s at jumble sales - Lonnie Donegan and Jimmy Young before buying some of those new 45s in the early 60s.
My collection probably started to become an obsession when I bought 500 second hand45's from a DJ in the mid 70s.
Then when I got my first properly paid job I was in the record shop in Stirling every week enjoying the same discount as the local DJs due to the volume of my purchases.
Went through a bit of a drought in the 90s when I didn't buy much of any consequence largely due to my stereo system packing in and being out of work for nearly a year.
I can also be found on DJHistory.com and Mixcloud
My birthday had a zero in it last year and thanks go to Edinburgh Rocks for nudging me out of my comfort zone on the music front to mark the occasion. Have since managed a visit to the Newsroom on Leith Street for some early evening vibes and also to the Liquid Rooms on Victoria Street...
Part of my birthday was also to buy myself a pair of decent turntables, a mixer and some proper software
