Counterclockwise was perhaps the finest recorded statement in the illustrious history of Previte’s band Bump, and featured Curtis Fowlkes, Marty Ehrlich, Steve Swallow, and Wayne Horvitz. The album was and experiment of sorts: Previte wanted to create an entire record of just one "modular" tune, which would be arranged differently but all all on the fly, Previte yelling out names of cities and states that pointed the band in the direction he wanted to go.

The Guardian UK advised listeners to “stand well back,” while Mac Two said, “Counterclockwise has that anti-social dissonance that has defined some of the best hip-hop. It’s all about the buzz you get when music really crashes through your speakers, and I suppose the most important thing about Counterclockwise is that it has a tremendous sense of unapologetic, menacing weight.”
