About Curl & Dean :
Curl & Dean grew up in different parts of Essex with the Hip Hop culture, spraying walls & spitting into mics in the long hot summers of their youth. It was after the Dungaree & floppy hat raves of 89 that Curl bought his first keyboard, soon adding a 707 & 950 sampler, he started to PA to the hands in the air rave circuit.
Meanwhile, Deano Bobalino (Boba) with he’s love for Hip hop & beatz started to learn the art of DJ'in, getting his first pair of decks as an xmas present at the age of 15. It was not long before he started to DJ & MC on the local pirate radio stations before throwing himself into the 'hardcore you know the score' rave scene.
After several releases on his own progressive label, Curl was introduced to Boba, - whom was now a member of the break-beat band Axcess - via his friend Verbal, (who would become Mrs Curl) leading to a remix courtesy of Axcess for his label 'Free for a Girl'.
However, it was during a summer break in Ibiza, that Curl, with his early House & Progressive background was introduced by Boba to the sound of Breaks.
This introduction, following a diverse night out which included a live, bass heavy Leftfield PA, the legendary Carl Cox & a sunrise backed Bushwaka! & Layo set, convinced them - whilst supping yet another cold San Miguel on their inflatable Shark Lilo's - to blend their musical production styles, thus creating the Curl & Dean Sound.
After sending out a demo, they got asked by Big Square Records Head Bearded Honcho Big Nick D to remix a Ben & Lex tune "Floorburn", this was followed by a further release of their own tune "Kabul" which featured an excellent Merka Remix on the flip.
The original was also liscensed on the V2 released compilation LP "Urban Deluxe".
After a baby and a lot of travelling, next up was the rolling sounds of the "Snow Buddha" also released on Big Square Records with remixes from Future Funk Squad & MI Loki. The success of the Buddha was literally measured in inches, causing the snow to fall all over the U.K from release, this little beauty earnt a number 1 spot in the DJ Download Beats & Breaks Chart, a DJ magazine recommendation & support from many, including Jay Cunning's Kiss FM show.
Also released as part of the award winning NSB Uncovered Complilation on Ape Records, is the deep flowing sounds of "Shining Path".
Aswell as throwing their own Curl & Dean partys around London Town. For the last year, they have hosted "The Curl & Dean Break Wind Show" on globaldjnetwork & iBreaks radio, this will be coming back to your ears very soon as a podcast and radio show, where you can expect all styles of breakbeat & banter.
